When a developer announces their free game and it doesn’t go over well, it’s not uncommon for people to say “but they’re good!”
But the reality is that free horror and mystery games are not going to get the recognition and attention they deserve.
We recently got a chance to talk to developer Chris McLeod about why, and what the future holds for free horror.

McLeod has worked on games for the likes of Bethesda, Microsoft and Activision and is currently working on a new game called In the Shadows.
He believes that free game developers have a real chance of making a difference, and it’s why the indie scene is so important to him.
“The free horror game scene is really just a tiny bit ahead [of] what I think is necessary to make a really big impact,” McLeary says.
“The indie scene and indie games are huge.
We have a lot more indie games that have gone free than we have mainstream games, which means we’re doing a lot with what we have.”
I think that we’re going through a really important phase right now in terms of the indie game scene.
